How the repair process works

How Getting Your Car Fixed Works

Never been through this before? No problem. It only takes a few simple steps, and we take care of the rest.

  1. 1

    Call your insurance company

Call the number on your insurance card or use their app, and tell them what happened.

  2. 2

Tell them you want Chavez Auto Body

Tell them you want your car repaired at Chavez Auto Body in San Jose.

Learn about your rights as a California driver โ†—
  3. 3

They give you a claim number

Your insurance company will give you a claim number. Write it down or take a screenshot.

  4. 4

Give us the claim number, and we handle the rest

Call us or check in online with your claim number. We handle the calls with your insurance company, send them the photos and information they need, help with the rental car pickup and drop-off, and repair your car.

Check in online โ†’Lifetime warranty on our repairsFor as long as you own your car. See what it covers โ†’

That is it. We handle everything from here.

You do not have to deal with the insurance company, the paperwork or the rental on your own. Bring us your claim number and we take it from there.

Common questions

Can I choose my own body shop in California?

Yes. Under California Insurance Code section 758.5 and the Fair Claims regulations (10 CCR 2695.8), your insurance company cannot require that your car be repaired at a specific shop. Just tell them you want Chavez Auto Body.

What if my insurance company recommends a different shop?

You can still choose us. Once you tell your insurer which shop you chose, they are not allowed to steer you to a different one.

Can you help with a rental car?

Yes. We help set up the rental and can coordinate returning it when you pick up your car. Rental coverage depends on your policy.

Do you give estimates over the phone or online?

No. We need to see your car in person. Call us or leave your number and we will set up a free in-person estimate at the shop.
